To do list – Arriving in Perth

With only 19 days to go before we fly (…and breathe), then a further 13 days until I start work we’ve been meticulously planning out our first two weeks in Perth.  With two little ones in tow it’s important that we get through the long list of to-dos as smoothly as possible.  We plan to balance out long car journeys, tedious queues and sitting in waiting rooms with some quality family time exploring our new city – visiting local parks, suburbs and beaches.

On Day 1 we plan to sort out mobile phone sim cards, purchase a few items (GPS, laptop and printer) and do a pretty big food shop.  We’ve set up appointments at our bank on Day 2 to collect our bank cards, open saving accounts and discuss mortgages.  Once we have our bank cards, we’ll head to Medicare and Centrelink.  Our first weekend will then be spent visiting local suburbs, arranging some house viewings and looking for a new car as well as a few park and beach trips.

We’ve researched a lot online prior to our arrival and have been ‘Skyping’ our Aussie friends to discuss everything from health insurance to car seats.  We’ve also touched base with local childcare centres and arranged visits in our second week . Our homework should hopefully pay off and give our first week a little direction especially when we’ll be suffering from the dreaded jet lag. We know that making the move with two toddlers (who will of course throw us a few curveballs along the way) will mean that we may not get everything done on the day that we set out to but it’s good to get our heads around what needs to be done first and feel like we have a plan to work towards!  We already have tax file numbers from our time working in Sydney and once we have bank cards we can head to Medicare and Centrelink.  As soon as we get a permanent address we can then apply for our WA Driving Licenses…
